A letter released on Friday, signed by nearly all Senate Republicans, claims US President Joe Biden’s concern over escalation has “left Israel exposed and our enemies emboldened.” The letter urges the Biden Administration to speed up the delivery of all Congress-approved weapons and ammunition to Israel.
“We write once more to express our opposition to your administration’s partial arms embargo on Israel,” the letter stated. “The measures taken by the Biden-Harris administration contradict our longstanding tradition of strong military collaboration with Israel and call into question the reliability of the United States as a dependable security ally.”
The letter continued to mention the controversial video that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted in June on X, which was previously known as Twitter, where he accused Biden of withholding weapons and ammunition.
The White House firmly rejected Netanyahu’s claims, stating that only one delivery of 500 and 2,000-pound bombs had been postponed. The delivery of 500-pound bombs resumed last month.
The Pentagon stated that despite Biden halting one shipment of bombs, the US continued to deliver defense materials, although the specifics of these deliveries remain uncertain.
Resources reportedly withheld from Israel
The letter from the Republicans on Friday claimed that the White House intentionally withheld 120 mm tank ammunition, 120 mm mortar ammunition, light tactical vehicles, air-to-air missiles, F-15s, F-35 engines, joint direct attack munition kits, 2,000 pound bombs, rifles, and guided missile systems.
The letter additionally claimed that the White House disregarded Congressional questions concerning weapon shipments to Israel posed by Senate Republicans during May and June.
The letter stated, “Your administration should immediately cease accommodating Iran and its terrorist affiliates.”
The Post has contacted the Pentagon, White House, and State Department about the claims in the letter.
