Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has called for the establishment of an international coalition against Iran.
According to a written statement from the Ministry of Defense, Gallant met with UK Defense Minister John Healey, who was on an official visit to Israel from Lebanon.
It was reported that Gallant and Healey discussed cooperation in many strategic and military areas, including defense and intelligence.
The Israeli Defense Minister, recalling Israel’s attack on the Iranian Embassy in Damascus in April, expressed his appreciation for the UK’s cooperation during Iran’s retaliatory attack.
Referring to Israel’s attacks on senior Hezbollah figure Fuad Shukur and Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, Gallant stated that the Israeli army is ready to defend itself on all fronts in light of recent developments.
Gallant called for the formation of an international coalition against Iran and its proxies, arguing that such a coalition would have a decisive impact on regional and global stability.
The statement did not include the response of British Minister Healey to Gallant’s call.
What had happened?
Senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukur was killed in an Israeli army attack on Beirut, Lebanon’s capital, on July 30.
Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh was also assassinated in Tehran, Iran’s capital, on July 31.
While Iran and Hamas pointed to Israel as being behind the attacks, the Tel Aviv administration remains silent on the matter.
